Services
Four ways of engagement.
Projects start at $25,000. Ongoing design leadership starts at $10,000 a month, with a three-month minimum. Reduced rates for grant-funded and nonprofit work.

01 / Discovery and design research
I find out what is actually happening before I draw anything. I interview and observe the people closest to the problem, then turn that into findings a team can act on.
- What you get
- Interviews and field observation with patients, families, and clinicians
- Synthesis into a small number of findings, ranked by what they change
- A written report, and where the work warrants it, a peer-reviewed paper
- Typical shape
- Weeks to months.
QualCare: three mobile clinics, eight interviews, four findings that redirected the design

02 / Concept to testable prototype
Take a clinical need to something people can hold and try. Modeled in CAD, 3D printed, sewn, or otherwise constructed, ready to test in simulation or directly with the clinicians or patients who would use it. I have worked with a team of individual experts over the past 15 years who I use for mechanical engineering, 3D printing, soft-good prototyping and bench-testing with custom phantom models.
- What you get
- CAD models, working physical prototypes
- Simulation or bench testing with clinicians, and the research protocol behind it
- A design documented well enough to hand to a manufacturer, a regulator or patent attorney
- Typical shape
- Months to years, depending on the scope.

03 / Digital product design
I design healthcare apps and clinical dashboards. I start with research and hand your developers screens and specs they can build from without guessing.
- What you get
- User flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity screens
- A design system with tokens and components, not a folder of mockups
- Developer handoff with the decisions written down beside the specs
- Typical shape
- Weeks to months, depending on whether the product exists yet.
PediQUEST: a redesigned family symptom-reporting flow, now handed to engineering to build

04 / Embedded design lead
I join your cross-functional team as its design lead for the length of a specific project or group of projects.
- What you get
- Design leadership across a program, series of projects or a single long-term project
- Direct work with your engineers, clinicians, quality improvement team, and others
- Whatever the program actually needs, decided as it goes rather than scoped up front
- Typical shape
- Ongoing. My longest engagements of this kind have run five and six years.
