Design Chair Fellowship
Résumé
Jules Sherman, MS, MFA
Designer, researcher and educator working at the intersection of human-computer-interaction, industrial design and clinical care.
- Led end-to-end design across multiple pediatric healthcare products, from generative research and workflow mapping through product strategy, interaction design, prototyping, usability testing, validation, and implementation.
- Worked directly with patients, caregivers, clinicians, engineers, and researchers to understand complex workflows and translate them into clear product requirements, interactions, and experiences.
- Designed patient-facing digital experiences, connected products, medical devices, clinical workflows, and service touchpoints for families navigating high-stakes healthcare situations.
- Conducted contextual research in patients’ homes, patient and caregiver interviews, nurse surveys, usability testing, task analysis, and concept validation to ground product decisions in evidence.
- Served as both design lead and hands-on practitioner across research, strategy, information architecture, interaction design, visual design, prototyping, and production.
- Built reusable design patterns, components, templates, and standards to improve consistency across multiple concurrent products.
- Collaborated with engineering, clinical, research, and regulatory teams to balance user needs with technical, organizational, and regulatory constraints.
- Designed within FDA, HIPAA, and IRB requirements and worked directly with the FDA on a medical-device development pathway.
Acquired by Lansinoh, 2018
- Founded a healthcare product company around an unmet clinical need and led it from user research and product definition through design, validation, commercialization, and acquisition.
- Conceived and developed Primo-Lacto®, a patented neonatal colostrum collection system, working directly with clinicians and hospitals to understand workflows and translate them into product requirements.
- Took Primo-Lacto from concept through research, design, validation, FDA filing, manufacturing, and global hospital adoption.
- Owned the complete user and customer experience, including product design, workflow integration, packaging, instructions for use, clinician communication, and implementation materials.
- Lead a multidisciplinary design practice across healthcare, medical technology, digital products, and consumer products for organizations including Stanford Medicine, Children’s National Hospital, Q-Medic Health, Clorox, Lansinoh, Newell-Rubbermaid, and Innovation Center Denmark.
- Lead engagements from ambiguous problem definition through research, synthesis, product strategy, design, prototyping, testing, and production.
- Facilitate research and co-creation with end users and stakeholders to uncover unmet needs, map workflows, define opportunities, and translate findings into product experiences.
- Use Figma and AI-assisted design and development tools to rapidly explore concepts and create functional prototypes for testing and stakeholder alignment.
